Fine Arts Holiday Showcase 2014

Inspired by the painting starry night, I painted a more winter-ish theme for the holiday poster design contest. I used acrylic paint, along with some watercolor. I took a picture of the painting and edited it on photoshop, using the dodge and burn tools, along with the text tools. Also, using the magic wand tool, I selected the emblems and put them in the correct place. It took a while to find the appropriate text that would be readable against all the colors in the background.

Beguile

A sort of creepy picture I took of my mom. Taken with my 35mm camera. The name of the photograph is Beguile; to entice or charm in a deceptive way. I didn't get her to pose like this, I took the picture while she was off guard and the wind was messing up her hair. Rule of thirds is used.

Emergence

This is a photo I took on my digital camera. The picture was taken in my backyard. The flower is actually really small, I zoomed in alot to get all the detail. The photo is named emergence, which means the process of coming into being, or of becoming important or prominent. The flower is small and usually not recognized on these types of trees and in the photograph it is the main subject. I used the Macro setting on my camera and used a filter to bring out the contrast between the trees, sky and flower. Also, rule of thirds and leading lines are used.

Altered Self Portrait Project

What differences did you find between Photoshop and Illustrator?: The difference between Photoshop and Illustrator is that they both have a similar format, but different tools to use.
What is the difference between vector images and raster images?: Vector images use geometrical shapes to create images. Raster uses dots and pixels to create an image.
The process took me about 3 class periods to finish. I used the pen tool to select the shadows/highlights on my face then I used the eyedropper tool to match my skin tones and filled the shape with my skin color. I repeated this process until I got the result I wanted. At some points the shapes did not connect, so I had to start over a couple of times.
What new tools did you learn and use in Illustrator, and what jobs did they have?: Pen tool, used to draw shapes. Fill tool fills the shape with a color and the eyedropper tool picks a color close to the one you select.
What was your favorite (or most successful) part about this assignment?: My favorite part of the assignment is the finished result.
What was your least favorite part about this assignment?: My least favorite part is the process it took to make the finished result. It was tedious.

How would you improve if given the assignment again?: I would improve by using smaller shapes and making my shapes more geometrically even.

Flowers

I like this photography, the way the lights create a dark effect on the person holding them but the flowers create a sense of light.

Influences

The things on this map are the things that influence me the most in my art. The music artists listed are the ones I usually listen to when I draw. The influence map is colorful and full of variety, ranging from music artist Miley Cyrus to Kurt Cobain, because my influences come from all different places and genres. The blue haired girl under the word Map is a painting by my favorite artist "imamachinist", who is also the artist for the band Ghost Town. Watching his art tutorials on Youtube is one of the things that inspired me to start drawing. This was done in Photoshop c:
